«Papa et autres nouvelles» is Vassilis Alexakis's collection of short stories for French learners (B1), published by Didier in paperback (80 pages).
The first story takes place in the Bois de Vincennes, where a young man is approached by a child who calls him «papá». The volume brings together five stories that address fatherhood, love, jealousy, the power of language and the meaning of life, with a tone that oscillates between the serious and the absurd and a certain dose of humor.
«Papa et autres nouvelles» won the Prix de la Nouvelle de l'Académie française in 1997, the year of its original publication; this 2012 edition includes freely downloadable MP3 audio.
Designed for B1 (intermediate) French learners and for adults who want to read in French with audio support.
Vassilis Alexakis was a Greek-French writer and self-translator of numerous novels in Greek, his mother tongue, and French.
