«Akvarium» is the novel by Barbara Voors, published by MånPocket in 1999 as a paperback (248 pages, in Swedish).
The narrative follows a woman trapped in the «aquarium»: an environment where lying is the norm for belonging and where one learns to become insensitive. Between the memories of her childhood in Iran and her mother's disappearance, she seeks to recover a life in which one can be vulnerable, although her environment keeps her tied to falsehoods.
Barbara Voors, born in 1967 and based in Stockholm, made her debut in 1990 with «Älskade du»; besides novels for adults, she has published travel writing and children's books.
A book for those interested in contemporary Nordic fiction and in stories about memory, identity and relationships marked by falsehood.
