«Alfonso XIII: De Primo de Rivera a Franco» is the historical essay by Miguel Platón, published by FisicalBook in paperback (653 pages, in Spanish).
Miguel Platón examines the figure of Alfonso XIII, an ambivalent king who lived through a turbulent period in Spanish history. The book shows him trapped between the country's modernization and the authoritarian temptation of the Monarchy, with a militarism of political aspirations; from this stems much of the tragic Spanish drift of the first half of the twentieth century.
Originally published in 1999, the full title bears the subtitle «La tentación autoritaria de la Monarquía».
For readers of contemporary Spanish history interested in the reign of Alfonso XIII and the transition from Primo de Rivera to Franco.
