«Apologie de Socrate» is the philosophical work by Plato published by Hatier in paperback (79 pages, in French).
Plato recreates Socrates' defense before the Athenian court: accused of corrupting the young and of not honoring the city's gods, he prefers to maintain his philosophical way of life rather than save his life by renouncing it. He accepts the sentence with serenity, showing his commitment to the truth.
It belongs to the Profil collection, number 766, in the Textes philosophiques series. Edition by Claude Chrétien.
A study edition for philosophy students and French-language readers, aimed at commented texts and exam preparation.
Plato was an ancient Greek philosopher of Classical Athens who is most commonly considered the foundational thinker of the Western philosophical tradition. An innovator of the literary dialogue and dialectic forms, Plato influenced all the major areas of theoretical philosophy and practical philosophy, and was the founder of the Academy, a philosophical school in Athens where Plato taught the collection of philosophical theories that would later become known as Platonism.
