«Belladonna» is the novel by Hugo Claus, published by De Bezige Bij in paperback (350 pages, in Dutch).
A private incident in the life of a Flemish minister triggers grotesque events with fatal consequences among cultural managers, financiers, filmmakers, writers and actors. The novel addresses the decline of love and creativity, and presents a game of masks and relativization where no word or action is unambiguous.
Published in 1994. Several editions carry the subtitle «scènes uit het leven in de provincie».
For readers of literary fiction who appreciate social satire and plots with moral ambiguity.
