«Bernat i els bandolers» is the young-adult novel by Josep Vallverdú i Aixalà, published by La Galera in paperback (170 pages, in Catalan).
In seventeenth-century Catalonia, constant wars, lack of rain and hunger drive many to violence, and the roads fill with bandits who rob and kill. In that hostile climate, young Bernat and his brother must leave their family home to make a living; what follows are days on the road, risks and unpredictable encounters, one adventure after another.
Volume 37 of the Grumets collection, with illustrations by Llucià Navarro. 1993 edition, with reading recommendation for ages 12 to 14.
For young readers aged 12 to 14 who enjoy adventure stories and history.
