«Bethsabée ou L'Éloge de l'adultère» is the historical novel by Marek Halter, published by Pocket in 2006 in paperback (130 pages, in French).
The novel recreates the story of Bathsheba, wife of a general of King David, whose beauty attracts the monarch. Their adulterous relationship triggers intrigue, lies and death in the court of Israel, but the son born of that union ends up shaping the kingdom's destiny. Halter humanizes the biblical figure and places her in a Near East of power and desire.
Polish and French novelist (born 1936)
