«Carta blanca» is the historical novel by Lorenzo Silva, published by Espasa in hardcover (352 pages, in Spanish).
The story follows Juan Faura, first a young legionnaire in the Moroccan War of the 1920s and then a disillusioned man during the Spanish Civil War. Between the two conflicts, an intense passion and a failed love drag him into a nearly suicidal campaign, until he encounters a past he cannot leave behind; love thus stands as the only redemption against human cruelty.
The novel won the Premio Primavera de Novela in 2004. It belongs to the Espasa Narrativa collection.
For readers of historical fiction and contemporary Spanish narrative, with an interest in the Moroccan War and the Spanish Civil War.
