«Cartas marruecas» is the epistolary essay by José Cadalso, published by Espasa in paperback (328 pages, in Spanish).
Gazel, a young Moroccan traveling through Spain; Ben-Beley, his mentor; and Nuño Núñez, a Spaniard, exchange letters so that Cadalso can ironically critique the customs and society of eighteenth-century Spain. It is one of the first examples of the short essay in Spain and offers a realistic portrait, without easy condemnations or uncritical admiration of the foreign.
It is part of the Austral Collection, number 94. The edition is by José Miguel Caso and includes an appendix by Antonio Cerrada. The work was originally published in 1789.
