«Casos do Beco das Sardinheiras» is Mário de Carvalho's short story collection, published by Caminho in paperback (100 pages, in Portuguese).
The book brings together cases featuring the residents of an alley in old Lisbon, between Alfama and Mouraria, ordinary people with a special attachment to their corner and their customs. With irony and a psychological eye, Carvalho turns the everyday into small stories where the extraordinary slips into neighborhood life.
The book's subtitle is «Onde importa sobremaneira não confundir género humano com Manuel Germano».
For readers of short fiction who want to approach Portuguese literature and popular Lisbon, with humor and touches of magical realism.
Mário Costa Martins de Carvalho is a Portuguese playwright and novelist.
