Coronation is the first novel by the renowned Chilean author José Donoso, published in 1957. The story focuses on Andrés, a solitary fifty-year-old man, who finds himself taking care of his nonagenarian grandmother, immersed in dementia. Through a grotesque and realistic narrative, Donoso explores themes of decadence, identity, transgression, and madness in a Santiago family, locked in an old mansion that feeds their darkest obsessions. Considered a classic of Latin American literature, this novel offers a deep look into the reality and memories of its characters.

José Manuel Donoso Yáñez, was a Chilean writer, journalist and professor. He lived most of his life in Chile, although he spent many years in self-imposed exile in Mexico, the United States and Spain. Although he stated that he had left Chile in the 1960s for personal reasons, after 1973 his exile was also a form of protest against the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet. He returned to Chile in 1981 and lived there until his death in 1996.
