«Crónica del alba» is the first volume in the eponymous series of novels by Ramón J. Sender, published by Alianza in paperback (424 pages, in Spanish).
The work follows José Garcés from his childhood and youth, and through his memory reconstructs the Spain of the first half of the twentieth century. The narrative alternates lyricism and realism to portray the loss of innocence, first loves and the social climate from the end of the monarchy to the beginnings of the civil war. It has been noted that the protagonist is a possible stand-in for Sender himself.
First volume of the «Crónica del alba» series; this book brings together the first three novels of the cycle, which consists of nine: «Crónica del alba», «Hipogrifo violento» and «La Quinta Julieta».
For readers of twentieth-century Spanish fiction and for those interested in historical memory and exile.
