«La aventura equinoccial de Lope de Aguirre» is the historical novel by Ramón J. Sender, published by El País in hardcover (415 pages, in Spanish).
The novel narrates the expedition of Lope de Aguirre, a 16th-century Spanish conquistador, in search of El Dorado. Deep in the Amazon jungle, the obsession with gold, resentment and thirst for honor transform the adventure into a descent into violence and madness, reflecting ambition and the human condition in an extreme environment.
The 2005 edition bears the indication «Novela Histórica» from El País on its cover; the catalogue classifies it under History and Literature and Fiction.
For readers interested in the history of Spain and Spanish America and in historical adventure narrative.
