«Cuentos medievales españoles» is the anthology of medieval tales edited by Joaquín Rubio Tovar, published by Anaya Infantil y Juvenil in paperback (128 pages, in Spanish).
The tale was one of the most widely circulated genres in the Middle Ages, and this anthology brings together a broad selection of examples from «El conde Lucanor» alongside samples from collections such as «Sendebar», «Calila y Dimna», «Castigos y documentos de Sancho IV» and «El libro del caballero Zifar». The work explains the confluence of two influences: Oriental tale collections and the «exempla» of Christian Europe.
It belongs to the Nueva Biblioteca Didáctica collection, number 6. Edition, introduction and notes by Joaquín Rubio Tovar, with illustrations by José María Ponce.
Aimed at young readers aged 14 and over and at those approaching medieval literature and history.
