Cyrano de Bergerac is a play in five acts written by Edmond Rostand, premiered in 1897. The play tells the story of Cyrano, a poet and swordsman, brave and proud, but self-conscious about his enormous nose. Despite his love for Roxane, Cyrano feels unable to confess his feelings to her and decides to help Christian, a handsome but ineloquent young man, to conquer Roxane by writing love letters in his name. This edition of Livre de Poche Jeunesse is an adapted version for young readers, with illustrations by Christophe Rouil.

Edmond Eugène Alexis Rostand was a French poet and dramatist. He is associated with neo-romanticism and is known best for his 1897 play Cyrano de Bergerac. Rostand's romantic plays contrasted with the naturalistic theatre popular during the late nineteenth century. Another of Rostand's works, Les Romanesques (1894), was adapted to the 1960 musical comedy The Fantasticks.
