«D'autres vies que la mienne» is the non-fiction account by Emmanuel Carrère, published by P.O.L. in paperback (307 pages, in French).
Emmanuel Carrère narrates two real events here: the death of a daughter for her parents and that of a young mother for her family. From these experiences arises the friendship between two cancer-surviving judges who handle over-indebtedness cases, a story about illness, extreme poverty, justice and, above all, love.
The over-indebtedness cases are processed at the court of Vienne (Isère), in France. The work was published in 2009.
Emmanuel Carrère is a French author, screenwriter and film director.
