«Der Sinn und die Sinne» is Jochen Hörisch's essay on the history of media, published by Eichborn Verlag in hardcover (440 pages, in German).
It proposes a history of communication media from Christianity to the digital world, summed up in the triad host, coin and CD-ROM: each medium organizes meaning and the senses, from divine communion to binary code. Hörisch presents it with provocation, polemic and numerous literary and cultural references, in an agile tone.
Volume 195 of Die Andere Bibliothek, originally published in January 2001. The work includes illustrations.
Intended for readers of philosophy, media theory and culture; also for those who enjoy provocative and erudite essays.
