«Des chauves-souris, des singes et des hommes» is the novel by Paule Constant, published by Éditions Gallimard in paperback (165 pages, in French).
A girl strokes a bat and young men proudly display the corpse of a silverback monkey: so begins a choral story in an African village. As a disease spreads silently, peasants, rubber tappers, vendors, canoeists and primatologists ignore it or seek answers in magic, science or nature.
Paule Constant is a member of the Académie Goncourt and the novel was published in 2016 in the nrf collection.
For readers of contemporary literary fiction interested in choral stories about epidemics in rural African communities.
