Immerse yourself in the harshness of military life through the eyes of Jakob Walter, a soldier recruited by the Napoleonic army. This diary offers an unprecedented view of the campaigns in Prussia, Austria, and especially the catastrophic Moscow campaign. Unlike the accounts of officers, Walter presents us with the reality of the foot soldier, without political or strategic judgments, showing the harshness of day-to-day life and the extreme difficulties faced. A shocking testimony and an unavoidable reference for scholars of the Napoleonic era.
