«Días de infancia» is the first installment of Máximo Gorki's autobiographical trilogy, published by Seix Barral in hardcover (286 pages, in Spanish).
The author recalls his childhood in Astrakhan, in nineteenth-century Russia, after the death of his father. Taken in by his grandmother, the boy grows up amid poverty and the harshness of a hostile environment, but also among stories and gestures of protection. The narrative, told from his perspective, portrays family and social life of the era without idealizing misery or everyday violence.

Alexei Maximovich Peshkov, popularly known as Maxim Gorky, was a Russian and Soviet writer, journalist, and proponent of socialism. He was nominated five times for the Nobel Prize in Literature. Before his success as an author, he travelled widely across the Russian Empire, changing jobs frequently; these experiences would later influence his writing. He associated with fellow Russian writers Leo Tolstoy and Anton Chekhov, both mentioned by Gorky in his memoirs.
