«Dynamics in Action: Intentional Behavior as a Complex System», by Alicia Juarrero, is the philosophical essay published by Bradford Books in hardcover.
Analyses the boundary between the voluntary and the involuntary. Rejects the 350-year-old causal model, based on efficient causes of the push-pull type and on demonstrative explanations, and proposes understanding causes as dynamic constraints proper to complex adaptive systems, explaining intentional action as historical narrative.
Originally published in 1999 within the A Bradford Book series of MIT Press. The volume includes bibliographic references and an index.
Intended for readers of philosophy of mind and action, and for those following debates on complex systems and cognitive sciences.
