«Eine Frau flieht vor einer Nachricht» is the novel by David Grossman, published by FISCHER Taschenbuch in paperback (730 pages, in German).
A mother fears that one of her two sons has died in the war. To ward off her anguish, she tells her own life story: love for two men, cooking, and routine. The work intertwines with the author's biography, whose son Uri died in the last days of the Lebanon war, and addresses loss, memory, and the healing power of storytelling.
The translation from Hebrew is by Anne Birkenhauer, and this edition appeared in 2011.
Recommended for readers of contemporary literature and narratives about war and memory.
