«El amor del rey» is the historical novel by Begoña Aranguren, published by Editorial Planeta in hardcover (320 pages, in Spanish).
A woman raised at Court recalls her relationship with Alfonso XIII: childhood admiration becomes friendship and a silent love that clashes with the morality of her time. The novel portrays the king in his most personal light, an unexpected Queen Victoria Eugenia, and a singular mistress, amid the crisis of the Spanish monarchy.
It belongs to the Autores Españoles e Iberoamericanos collection and won the Premio Azorín de Novela 2010.
Aimed at readers of historical fiction about royalty and those seeking a love story with a political backdrop.
