The Art of Prudence summarizes in three hundred phrases a good part of the practical wisdom that allows one to triumph in an increasingly competitive and hostile world. This book, published more than three hundred years ago by Baltasar Gracián, offers a guide to the results of one's own and others' actions, teaching that there is not only one path to prudence or success. Its texts constitute an inexhaustible advisor, always the same and always different, since the reader is the one who decides the path to take.

Baltasar Gracián y Morales, better known as Baltasar Gracián, was a Spanish Jesuit priest and Baroque prose writer and philosopher. He was born in Belmonte, near Calatayud (Aragón). His writings were lauded by Schopenhauer and Nietzsche. He is best known for his book The Art of Worldly Wisdom (1647), but his novel El Criticón (1651-57) is considered his greatest work.
