«El buen sirviente» is the contemporary fiction novel by Carmen Posadas, published in 2003 by Círculo de Lectores in hardcover (315 pages, in Spanish).
Inés Ruano, a 45-year-old fashion photographer, receives a disturbing birthday gift: two men in black claim her soul for the good luck she has already enjoyed. The joke is from Inés's mother, who wants to introduce her to a young man and then control the relationship. An old love stands between them; only fate or the devil will return them to their true life.
For readers of contemporary fiction who enjoy portraits of mother-daughter relationships and characters marked by family secrets.
