«El carrer estret» is a costumbrista novel by Josep Pla, published by Destino in paperback (250 pages, in Catalan).
The action takes place in Torrelles, a small imaginary town in contemporary Catalonia. A newly arrived veterinarian and the cook Francisqueta observe the daily life of the town; through them, the novel portrays the solitude and routine of anonymous characters in a register between costumbrismo and neorealism.
The work was originally published in 1951 and won the first Joanot Martorell Prize for fiction. This edition is from 1981.
