This stunning graphic adaptation of Margaret Atwood's contemporary classic, beautifully rendered by artist Renee Nault, brings the terrifying world of Gilead to life like never before. Offred is a Handmaid in Gilead, a republic where women are forbidden to work, read, or form friendships. She serves in the home of the Commander and his Wife, with the sole purpose of bearing children in a society facing a sharp decline in birthrates. But Offred remembers the years before the establishment of Gilead, when she was an independent woman with a job, a family, and a name of her own. Now, her memories and her will to survive are considered acts of rebellion.
