«El disputado voto del señor Cayo» is the contemporary fiction novel by Miguel Delibes, published by Austral in paperback (192 pages, in Spanish).
Young activists from a political party arrive on an electoral campaign in a nearly empty village in northern Castile. They are received by Señor Cayo, one of the two remaining residents, with his simple life and traditional wisdom. The contrast in language and customs highlights the distance between the disappearing rural world and the urban society that replaces it.
Part of the Austral Básicos collection. A representative work of twentieth-century Spanish narrative.
Aimed at readers of contemporary Spanish narrative and those interested in rural Spain and depopulation.
