«El gran golpe» is a collection of crime fiction stories by Dashiell Hammett, published by Editorial Bruguera in paperback (316 pages, in Spanish).
It brings together six of Hammett's detective stories: the title piece, «El asesinato de las criadas chinas», and other works of dry violence and corrupt settings. It closes with «Tulip», the unfinished novel the author was working on when he died, which points to the change of direction he planned for his narrative.
Original title: The Big Knockover. Translated by Ana Goldar. Published in 1981 as Libro Amigo no. 522, in the Novela Negra collection no. 9.
Samuel Dashiell Hammett was an American writer of hard-boiled detective novels and short stories. He was also a screenwriter and political activist. Among the characters he created are Sam Spade, Nick and Nora Charles, The Continental Op and the comic strip character Secret Agent X-9.
