«El ingenioso hidalgo y poeta Federico García Lorca asciende a los infiernos» is the novel by Carlos Rojas, published by Círculo de Lectores in hardcover.
The novel begins with the death of Federico García Lorca in 1936: the poet descends into a hell evoking Bruegel's Tower of Babel and watches scenes from his own life in a small theater. The appearance of two doubles, a middle-aged Lorca and an elderly Lorca, opens a labyrinth of identities and alternative destinies.
Winner of the 1979 Premio Nadal, the 1980 Spanish-language edition has 193 pages.
Will appeal to readers of contemporary Spanish fiction and admirers of Federico García Lorca.
