«El llibreter de Kabul» is the chronicle by journalist Åsne Seierstad, published by labutxaca in paperback (352 pages, in Catalan).
In November 2001, Åsne Seierstad meets Sultan Khan in Kabul, a bookseller who has seen his books burned or destroyed by communists, mujahideen and Taliban. Living with his family, she portrays a society where men joke, women stay silent, and forbidden loves, arranged marriages and silent rebellions emerge.
The work was originally published as «Bokhandleren i Kabul» in 2002 and received the Norwegian booksellers' prize (Bokhandlerprisen). This Catalan edition includes a translation by Carles Sans Climent.
It is aimed at readers interested in Afghanistan, its society and journalistic non-fiction.

Åsne Seierstad is a Norwegian freelance journalist and writer, best known for her accounts of everyday life in war zones – most notably Kabul after 2001, Baghdad in 2002 and the ruined Grozny in 2006.
