«El loro de Haydn» is the young-adult novel by Felipe Juaristi, published by Editorial Everest in paperback (112 pages, in Spanish).
One summer morning, the old ship Stella Maris runs aground on the beach at Zarautz. Three witnesses —the sacristan, the tobacconist and a notary candidate— see monkeys, colorful birds and the three crew members escape from the vessel. The event disrupts life in the fishing village and still holds more surprises.
It belongs to the Punto de Encuentro collection (2nd edition) and won the VI Leer es Vivir Prize for young-adult literature (2002). It includes illustrations by Elena Odriozola; recommended reading from age 14.
Recommended for young readers aged 14 and over and for adults interested in award-winning young-adult literature.
