«El maestro de almas» is the psychological novel by Irène Némirovsky, published by Salamandra in paperback (224 pages, in Spanish).
A ruined Crimean doctor settles in Nice with his wife and baby, but his origins make him a target of suspicion. With no clients and cornered by debts, he decides to pass himself off as a therapist, capitalizing on the rise of psychoanalysis in 1930s Paris. Dario's social ascent among the bourgeoisie leads to an unforeseen outcome.
Work originally published in French as «Le Maître des âmes» and serialized in the weekly Gringoire between May and August 1939. This Spanish edition belongs to the Salamandra Narrativa collection.
Readers of classic and psychological fiction seeking an incisive portrait of interwar Parisian society and social ambition.

Irène Némirovsky was a novelist of Ukrainian Jewish origin who was born in Kiev, then in the Russian Empire. She lived more than half her life in France and wrote in French, but was denied French nationality. Arrested as a Jew under the racial laws – which did not take into account her conversion to Roman Catholicism – she died in Auschwitz at the age of 39. Némirovsky is best known for the posthumously published Suite française.
