Boabdil, the last sultan of Granada, writes his testimony on the crimson papers of the Alhambra's Chancellery. The novel interweaves his childhood, his formation as a refined prince, the weight of ruling a doomed kingdom, his relationships with Moraima, Farax and Jalib, and his abhorrence of the Catholic Monarchs.
The novel won the Planeta Prize in 1990, the year of its original publication; this edition is from 1998.
