«El Materialismo Histerico» is a collection of short stories by Xavier Velasco, published by Alfaguara in paperback (180 pages, in Spanish).
Twenty-four stories that oscillate between chronicle, fable, and essay. With black humor and sharp prose, the author portrays reckless debtors, blackmailers, and other specimens of nightlife. Unscrupulous ambition and the thirst for revenge slip into bars and cabarets, where beauty appears where others only see risk.
Originally published in 2005, the book bears the subtitle «fábulas cutrefactas de avidez & revancha».
For fiction readers with a taste for black humor and corrosive stories about ambition and nightlife.
Xavier Velasco is a Mexican writer. He was born in Mexico City. He won the 2003 Premio Alfaguara for his novel Diablo Guardián.
