Despite being an exemplary man, Gunnar has a peculiar defect: he howls in moments of sadness. This causes the authorities to consider him crazy and try to intern him in a psychiatric hospital, but he will have the help of his neighbors to escape to the forest.
Arto Tapio Paasilinna was a Finnish writer, being a former journalist turned comic novelist. One of Finland's most successful novelists, he won a broad readership outside of Finland in a way few other Finnish authors have before.
