«El mundo» is the novel by Juan José Millás published by Planeta in hardcover (230 pages, in Spanish).
A commission to write a report about himself leads the narrator to observe himself. The memory of his father's electromedicine workshop and of an electric scalpel that cauterizes as it cuts reveals to him the meaning of writing: to open wounds in order to close them. The impossible chronicle becomes a novel about memory and identity.
«El mundo» was published on November 29, 2007 within the Premio Planeta collection and falls under the category Literature and Fiction.
Juan José Millás is a Spanish writer and winner of the 1990 Premio Nadal. He was born in Valencia and has spent most of his life in Madrid, where he studied philosophy and literature at the Universidad Complutense.
