«El último Hammett» is the crime novel by Juan Sasturain, published in paperback (686 pages, in Spanish).
In 1953, Dashiell Hammett, pursued by the taxman and the FBI, has not published for twenty years. His attempt to write a final novel collides with the visit of his comrade Tulip, alcohol abstinence and an Argentine writer obsessed with continuing an anecdote from The Maltese Falcon, in a plot that plays with homage and plagiarism.
The novel starts from «Tulip», the manuscript Dashiell Hammett left unfinished. It won the Dashiell Hammett Prize for best crime novel at Semana Negra de Gijón 2019.
For crime fiction readers and for those wanting a fictional approach to Dashiell Hammett's final years.
