El vendedor de naranjas, Fernando Fernán Gómez's first novel, written when he was already a popular actor and director, is an ironic and emotional comedy with autobiographical touches. The narration is full of brilliant moments that show the ins and outs of Spanish film production, including the machinations, sorrows, scams and various tricks. In addition, it offers a clear vision of the atmosphere and living conditions of those who worked in the nascent celluloid industry in Spain during the 1950s, based on the belief that Spanish film producers of the time were Valencian businessmen in the orange sector.
This edition includes an epilogue by Aguilar and Cabrerizo entitled "El vendedor de naranjas y otros relatos de cine y picaresca".

Fernando Fernández Gómez, better known as Fernando Fernán Gómez, was a Spanish actor, screenwriter, film director, theater director, novelist, and playwright. Prolific in all these fields, he was elected member of the Royal Spanish Academy in 1998. He was born in Lima, Peru while his mother, Spanish actress Carola Fernán-Gómez, was making a tour in Latin America. He would later use her surname for his stage name when he moved to Spain in 1924.
