On a rainy spring day, Miyu, a young woman living alone in the big city, finds a cat curled up in a cardboard box and decides to take it home. Miyu finds it difficult to express her feelings, but the cat closely observes her clumsiness and routines. Each in their own world, both venture outside, where they will meet others with diverse problems, some big and some small. Reina, a girl who doesn't dare to take the entrance exams to the School of Fine Arts, and Aoi, tormented by the death of her best friend, are also part of this story. While their cats watch them with affection, a special bond full of emotions is created between them. 'She and Her Cat' is the novelization of one of the first works by animation director Makoto Shinkai, a set of four stories about stray cats full of charm and beauty.
