Anwell, twenty years old, victim of an unknown illness, recalls from the hospital his childhood in Mulyan (Australia): the accidental death of his brother, his friendship with Finnigan, always with his dog Surrender, and the pact: Finnigan will do evil and Anwell will devote himself to doing good. The fires ravaging Mulyan divide the community.
Translation by Bertrand Ferrier. Work awarded the Victorian Premier and Michael L. Printz prizes. Published in 2009.
Suitable for young and adult readers, it combines the coming-of-age novel with a dark tone and an Australian rural setting.
