«Franco en la Guerra Civil» is the political biography written by Javier Tusell, published by Tusquets Editores in paperback (430 pages, in Spanish).
The book covers the three years of the Spanish Civil War and how Franco cemented the foundations of his dictatorship. With unpublished sources —the correspondence between Franco, Hitler and Mussolini, ministers' diaries and private archives—, Javier Tusell portrays the ambition for power that guided Franco and his strategy to perpetuate himself in power.
The first edition dates from 1992 and the book belongs to the Andanzas collection. The cover illustration is based on a photograph of Franco from around 1937 and a detail of an oil painting by José Aguiar.
For readers interested in the contemporary history of Spain, the Civil War and twentieth-century political biographies.
Javier Tusell Gómez was a Spanish historian, writer and politician who served as a professor of modern history at the National University of Distance Education (UNED).
