«Global Change, Regional Response» is the development economics essay edited by Barbara Stallings and published by Cambridge University Press in paperback (432 pages, in English).
This collective book analyzes how the end of the Cold War, new relations among capitalist powers, the globalization of trade and production, financial changes and ideological currents transformed development in four regions of the Third World. The United States in Latin America, Japan in East and Southeast Asia, and Europe with international financial institutions in Africa shaped each area's development options. The work explains why Asia grew rapidly, Latin America stagnated and sub-Saharan Africa suffered economic contraction during the 1980s and early 1990s.
Collective work in which Barbara Stallings acts as editor and author; originally published in 1995, it includes chapters by Fred Halliday, Gary Gereffi, Stephany Griffith-Jones, Thomas J. Biersteker, Yun-han Chu, Linda Y. C. Lim, Augusto Varas and Michael Chege.
Recommended for students and researchers of economics, international development and international relations interested in Third World economic policy.
