«Historia de la vida del Buscón» is the picaresque novel by Francisco de Quevedo, published by Espasa-Calpe in the Colección Austral in paperback.
Pablos, son of a humble and shady family, decides to leave home and serve as a servant to a fellow student to climb the social ladder. His misadventures take him through a world of deceit, hunger and violence, portrayed by Quevedo with irony and a language full of devices. The work offers a satirical view of seventeenth-century Spanish society, its vices, hypocrisies and inequalities, and is one of the peaks of the picaresque novel alongside Lazarillo and Guzmán de Alfarache.
Work originally published in 1626, although its first draft dates from around 1603. The edition corresponds to Colección Austral, number 24, and is in Spanish.
