«Hivern» is the novel by Ali Smith, published by Rayo Verde Editorial in paperback (280 pages, in Catalan).
Four people, some previously unconnected and others members of the same family, gather in a fifteen-room house in Cornwall for Christmas. An immigrant brings the light and warmth the family cannot find, while the novel addresses post-truth, the refugee crisis, fake news and the climate crisis.
Second installment of Ali Smith's seasonal quartet, completed by Tardor, Primavera and Estiu; volume 37 of the Raigs Globulars collection. Translated into Catalan by Dolors Udina.
For readers of contemporary fiction seeking a novel with social critique, humor and concern for the present, set during a Christmas period.
Ali Smith CBE FRSL is a Scottish author, playwright, academic and journalist. Sebastian Barry described her in 2016 as "Scotland's Nobel laureate-in-waiting."
