«La Araucana» is the epic poem by Alonso de Ercilla, published by Emiliano Escolar in paperback (295 pages, in Spanish).
An epic poem of the Spanish Golden Age that recreates the first stage of the Arauco War, in present-day Chile, between Spanish conquistadors and Mapuches. Ercilla took part in those events, and his account admires the bravery of the Mapuches against the conquest; for this reason the work has been read as an emblem of Chilean identity and freedom.
Composed in three parts, it appeared between 1569 and 1589; this edition is from 1981. The cover identifies the volume as volume I.
