«La conferencia de los animales» is a children's fable by Erich Kästner, published by Santillana Educación in paperback (120 pages, in Spanish).
After two world wars and the failure of human peace conferences, the animals, led by the lion Alois, hold their own assembly to achieve the peace that rulers cannot. The story combines humor and satire in a plea for dialogue, reason and peace.
The original German title, «Die Konferenz der Tiere», was first published in 1949. This paperback edition is from 2002.
Recommended for child and young adult readers, it is commonly used as school reading.
