«La cuarta verdad» is the historical mystery novel by Iain Pears, published by Círculo de Lectores in hardcover (633 pages, in Spanish).
The plot unfolds between Oxford and London: Robert Grove, a professor at New College, dies poisoned and his maid is accused of the crime. Four witnesses offer their version of events, but only one of the narratives is true, and distinguishing which one requires following the clues that intersect across the different accounts.
Published in 2001, translation by María Martoccia of the original «An Instance of the Fingerpost». Winner of the Martin Beck Award in 1999.
Recommended for readers of historical fiction and mystery, especially for those who enjoy stories told from multiple points of view.
