Esta investigación analiza los primeros asentamientos y comunidades judías en los reinos peninsulares durante la transición de la dominación musulmana a la cristiana, entre los siglos XI y XIII. Se centra en la 'tierra fronteriza' entre territorios cristianos y musulmanes, desde el sur de Portugal hasta las Islas Baleares. El autor describe el desarrollo de la sociedad judía en el sur peninsular, argumentando que su evolución fue influenciada principalmente por fuerzas externas. Los factores sociales, políticos y económicos de la frontera en la segunda mitad del siglo XIII contribuyeron a comunidades judías fluidas y con una organización interna precaria. La ausencia de instituciones públicas y estructuras políticas duraderas permitió a la corona y a los colonos judíos actuar según sus propios intereses.
