«La montgolfière» is the children's picture book by Gabrielle Vincent, published by Casterman in hardcover (32 pages, in French).
A man lands by balloon in the middle of the desert and meets a young shepherd. After climbing into the gondola, the boy spots his brother from the air and asks the pilot to descend so as not to anger his father. A brief tale in which paternal authority prevails over the discovery of the world, with illustrations of sensitive line and very little text.
The book belongs to the Les albums Duculot collection and was originally published in 1996.
The book is intended for children aged 3 to 5; its short text and illustrations make it suitable for first approaches to reading.
Monique Martin was a Belgian writer and illustrator of children's books. She is most famous for the children's book series Ernest & Celestine.
